What Is This Word Guessing Game?

This is a free daily word guessing game inspired by the viral puzzle phenomenon that captured over 2 million daily players at its peak. The concept is elegantly simple: every day, a new five-letter word is chosen, and you have six attempts to guess it. After each guess, every letter is color-coded to tell you how close you are to the answer.

The shared daily word is what makes this game special. Because everyone gets the same word, you can discuss strategy and compare results with friends and family. The spoiler-free emoji grid sharing lets you show off your performance without revealing the answer.

Our version includes hard mode, full statistics tracking, streak counting, and a sharable emoji grid. It works on any device with no signup, no app download, and no ads. Just open the page and start guessing.

How to Play

Type or tap a 5-letter word and press Enter to submit your guess. A strong opening word uses common letters like E, A, R, S, and T. Popular choices include CRANE, SLATE, and AUDIO, which cover many frequent letters in one guess.

After submitting, each tile flips to reveal its color. Green means correct letter in the correct spot. Yellow means the letter is in the word but elsewhere. Gray means the letter is not in the word. The on-screen keyboard updates so you can track which letters remain.

Combine clues across guesses to narrow down the answer. Pay special attention to yellow letters, which tell you both that a letter exists and that it is not in the position you tried. Most experienced players solve the puzzle in 3 to 4 guesses on average.

After completing the puzzle, you can share your results as a spoiler-free emoji grid showing your path to the answer. Your session statistics track games played, win percentage, current streak, and guess distribution.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the word guessing game work?

You have six attempts to guess a five-letter word. After each guess, every letter is color-coded: green means the letter is correct and in the right position, yellow means the letter is in the word but in the wrong position, and gray means the letter is not in the word at all. Use these clues to narrow down your next guess.

Is the word the same for everyone each day?

Yes. Every player gets the same word each day. The daily word resets at midnight in your local time zone. This shared experience lets you compare results with friends without spoiling the answer by sharing your color-coded emoji grid.

What is Hard Mode?

Hard Mode adds a constraint: any green letters must stay in the same position in subsequent guesses, and any yellow letters must be reused somewhere in your next guess. This prevents throwaway guesses and forces you to commit to what you have already learned.

How are duplicate letters handled?

Duplicate letters are evaluated carefully. If you guess a word with two of the same letter, each instance is scored independently. A letter only shows as yellow or green if there is a corresponding unmatched instance in the answer. For example, if the answer has one E and you guess a word with two Es, only one will be yellow or green and the other will be gray.

Can I play more than once per day?

The daily puzzle is one per day, which is part of what makes the game special. The limited play creates anticipation and makes each game feel meaningful. Your stats track your streak across days, rewarding consistent daily play.
