What Is the Darts Scorer?

The Darts Scorer is a free digital scorekeeper that replaces the pub chalkboard. Track 301, 501, and Cricket games for up to 4 players with an interactive dartboard, automatic checkout suggestions, and lifetime statistics. Whether you are playing in a league, at a bar, or practicing at home, this tool handles all the maths so you can focus on throwing.

Darts is one of the most popular pub games in the world, with an estimated 17 million players in the UK alone. Professional darts has exploded in popularity, with the PDC World Championship drawing over 90,000 fans to Alexandra Palace each December. The game requires precision, mental arithmetic, and strategic thinking — especially when working out checkouts under pressure.

How It Works

Set up your game. Choose 301, 501, or Cricket. Select 1 to 4 players and enter names. For 301 and 501, pick your finishing rule: Double Out (standard tournament rules), Straight Out (for casual play), or Double In/Double Out (traditional pub rules).

Score each dart. Click the interactive dartboard to record where each dart lands — single, double, triple, or bullseye segments are all clickable. Alternatively, switch to Quick Entry mode for faster scoring with shorthand like T20, D16, or Bull. Each turn consists of three darts.

Follow the checkout path. When your remaining score drops to 170 or below, the scorer displays the optimal finish. All 169 possible checkouts from 170 down to 2 are pre-computed, showing you the pro-recommended path to close out the leg.

Track your improvement. Lifetime stats track games played, wins, 180s, ton-plus rounds, best checkout, average points per dart, checkout percentage, and more. Stats persist in your browser between sessions.

Key Features

Interactive SVG dartboard. A detailed, accurate dartboard with all 82 scoring segments (20 singles, 20 doubles, 20 triples, single bull, double bull, plus the outer single areas). Tap or click to score. Hover effects help you target the right segment on desktop.

Complete checkout chart. Every possible finish from 170 (T20-T20-Bull) down to 2 (D1) is built in. The suggestions follow the professional recommended routes, preferring T20 as the setup and D20/D16 as the finishing double.

Full Cricket scoring. Track marks on 15 through 20 plus bullseye with the traditional slash/X/circle notation. Points are automatically scored when you hit a closed number that opponents have not closed. Win detection handles the “must have equal or more points” rule.

Bust detection. In double-out mode, the scorer automatically detects busts (score goes below 0, hits 1, or reaches 0 without a double) and reverts the entire turn. No more mental arithmetic errors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a checkout in darts?

A checkout is the combination of darts needed to finish a leg. In standard (double-out) rules, the final dart must land in a double segment or the double bullseye. The highest possible checkout is 170 (triple 20, triple 20, bullseye). This scorer shows the optimal checkout path whenever your remaining score is 170 or below.

Does this darts scorer work for real pub games?

Absolutely. Set up 1-4 players, choose 301, 501, or Cricket, and use the interactive dartboard or quick-entry buttons to record each throw. The scorer handles all rules including bust detection, double-out requirements, and Cricket mark tracking. It is designed to replace a pub chalkboard.

What game mode should beginners choose?

Start with 301 using Straight Out rules. This removes the requirement to finish on a double, so you can focus on accuracy and learning the board layout. Once you are comfortable, switch to Double Out for the standard tournament experience. Cricket is also beginner-friendly since it focuses on just 7 numbers.

How does Cricket scoring work?

In Cricket, players aim at numbers 15-20 and the bullseye. Hit a number once for a slash (/), twice for an X, and three times to close it (shown as a circle). Once you close a number, additional hits score points unless your opponent has also closed it. Win by closing all 7 numbers while having equal or more points.

What is a bust in 301 or 501?

A bust occurs when a throw reduces your score below zero, to exactly 1 (since you cannot finish on 1 with a double), or to exactly 0 without the final dart being a double (in double-out mode). When you bust, your entire turn is cancelled and your score reverts to what it was before that turn started.

Are my darts statistics saved?

Yes. Lifetime statistics including games played, games won, 180s, highest turn, average points per dart, best checkout, and more are stored in your browser's local storage. They persist between sessions as long as you use the same browser and do not clear your data.
