What Is the Passport Photo Maker?
Create passport and ID photos at home for free. Upload any photo, select your country's requirements, and get a compliant passport photo with white background — plus a print-ready sheet you can print at any drugstore for $0.35 instead of paying $15 at CVS or $17 at Walgreens.
The tool supports presets for 20+ document types across 8 countries, including US Passport, UK Passport, EU ID Cards, Canadian Passport, Australian Passport, Indian documents, Chinese Passport, and Japanese Passport. Each preset stores the exact dimensions, head size range, and eye position required by that country's specifications.
All processing happens entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your photos are never uploaded to any server. This is the most private passport photo tool available online.
How It Works
Step 1: Select your document type. Choose from US Passport, UK Passport, EU ID Card, and more. Each preset knows the exact photo dimensions, head size percentage, and eye position required for that document.
Step 2: Upload your photo. Drag and drop or click to browse. Use a front-facing photo with neutral expression taken against a plain background for best results.
Step 3: Auto-processing. The tool automatically detects your face, centers and crops the photo to place your head at the correct position, and replaces the background with white.
Step 4: Review compliance. A checklist verifies face centering, head size, eye position, background color, resolution, and shadow detection. Fix any issues before downloading.
Step 5: Download. Get a single photo PNG, a 4×6" print sheet with multiple photos for drugstore printing, or an A4/Letter sheet with 8 photos.
Save Money on Passport Photos
Professional passport photo services charge $10–$20 per set. CVS charges $16.99, Walgreens $16.99, and USPS $15.00. With this tool, you can create your own photos for free and print them at any drugstore photo kiosk for about $0.35 for a 4×6" print — that's a savings of over $15 per set.
The 4×6" print sheet arranges multiple passport photos on a single print, so you get all the photos you need from one inexpensive print. The A4/Letter option fits up to 8 photos on one page for home printing on glossy photo paper.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will these photos be accepted for a US passport?
Photos are cropped to official 2×2" US passport specifications with proper head positioning and white background. However, we recommend verifying compliance with current State Department guidelines before submitting.
Can I print these at home?
Yes — download the 4×6" print sheet and print on glossy photo paper, or take the file to any drugstore photo kiosk for about $0.35.
Is my photo stored on a server?
No. All processing happens in your browser using the Canvas API. Your photo never leaves your device. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or transmitted.
Which countries are supported?
The tool includes presets for the US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, India, China, Japan, and Schengen visa photos. You can also enter custom dimensions for any other country.
What photo should I use?
Use a front-facing photo with neutral expression, taken against a plain light-colored background. Even lighting without harsh shadows produces the best results. Higher resolution photos (at least 1000×1000 pixels) are recommended.
How does the background replacement work?
The tool detects the dominant color around the edges of your photo and replaces similar colors with white. It works best when your original photo has a relatively uniform background. For complex backgrounds, consider using our Background Remover tool first.
