What Is the Mood Board Maker?
A mood board is a visual collage of images, colors, textures, and text that captures the feel of a project before you start. Designers, photographers, event planners, and brand strategists use mood boards to align teams, pitch ideas, and define aesthetic direction.

How to Create a Mood Board
1. Choose a canvas size. Square for Instagram, Pinterest-optimized tall format, or landscape for presentations. Custom sizes up to 4000px are supported.
2. Upload images. Select multiple images at once. They're placed on the canvas and you can drag to reposition and resize with corner handles. The tool automatically extracts dominant colors from your first image.
3. Add color swatches and text. Use the Colors tab to add swatches from a color picker or from automatically extracted image colors. Text blocks support 5 fonts with customizable size, color, alignment, bold, and italic.
4. Arrange and layer. Drag elements to position them. Use Bring to Front and Send to Back to layer elements. Toggle grid snap for precise alignment.
5. Export. Download as PNG or JPG at 2x resolution, or copy to clipboard. Your work is auto-saved every 30 seconds.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the automatic color extraction work?
When you upload an image, the tool draws it to a hidden canvas, samples pixel colors across the image, and groups similar colors into buckets. The 5 most dominant (and visually distinct) colors are extracted and shown in the Colors sidebar. Click any extracted color to add it as a swatch to your mood board.
What canvas sizes are available?
Three presets: Square (1080x1080 — perfect for Instagram), Pinterest (735x1102), and Landscape (1920x1080 — great for presentations). You can also choose Custom and enter any dimensions up to 4000x4000 pixels.
Can I save my mood board and edit it later?
Yes. Your work is automatically saved to your browser's localStorage every 30 seconds. When you return to the tool, your last session is restored with all elements, positions, and backgrounds intact. Note: clearing browser data will remove saved boards.
What export formats are supported?
Export as PNG (lossless, best for digital use) or JPG (smaller file size). Both export at 2x resolution for sharp results. You can also copy the mood board directly to your clipboard if your browser supports it.
Can I use custom fonts?
The tool includes 5 web fonts: Playfair Display (elegant serif), Montserrat (modern sans-serif), Inter (clean system-style), Oswald (condensed display), and Poppins (friendly rounded). Each text block can use a different font, size, color, and alignment.
Is my data private?
100% private. Everything runs in your browser. Your images are never uploaded to any server. They're read as data URLs locally and rendered on the canvas element for export.
