The Comic Strip Maker is a free online tool that lets you create multi-panel comic strips in minutes. Choose a layout, pick backgrounds, add xkcd-style stick figure characters, drop in speech and thought bubbles, and download a polished PNG ready to share on social media, messaging apps, or print.

Comic strips have been a cornerstone of visual storytelling since the late 1800s. From newspaper strips like Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes to modern webcomics like xkcd and Sarah's Scribbles, the format thrives because it distills a story, joke, or observation into a handful of panels. Today, over 200 million webcomic readers consume comics online every month.

This tool runs entirely in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API for export. Your images never leave your device. There are no server uploads, no accounts, and no watermarks on your finished comics.

Step 1: Choose a layout. Select from 2-panel, 3-panel, 4-panel horizontal, or a 2×2 grid. The classic newspaper comic format is 3 or 4 panels. The 2×2 grid works well for longer stories or comparison gags.

Step 2: Set the scene. Click the Background button to choose from 12 scene backgrounds including Park, Beach, City, Office, Night Sky, Space, and more. You can also pick from 12 preset solid colors or enter any custom hex color. Each panel can have a different background.

Step 3: Add characters. Click "+ Character" to place stick figures in the active panel. Choose from 8 personalities: Happy, Angry, Sad, Confused, Excited, Cool, Thinking, and Surprised. Each has distinct facial expressions and body language. Drag to position, use the corner handle to resize, and flip horizontally for conversations.

Step 4: Add dialogue. Click "+ Bubble" to add speech bubbles, thought bubbles, or narration boxes. Click any bubble to edit its text and adjust the tail direction. Drag bubbles to position them near the speaking character. Each panel supports up to 3 bubbles.

Step 5: Export. Enter a strip title and author name, then click "Download PNG" for a high-resolution image or "Copy to Clipboard" to paste directly into apps.

Flexible panel layouts. Four layout options cover the most common comic strip formats. The 3-panel strip is the classic setup-development-punchline structure. The 2×2 grid gives you more room for visual storytelling and multi-beat jokes.

8 expressive stick figures. Each character has unique facial expressions and body language inspired by xkcd-style art. Happy raises their arms in celebration. Angry has furrowed brows and clenched fists. Cool wears sunglasses. Thinking rests a hand on their chin. These simple figures are surprisingly expressive.

Three bubble types. Speech bubbles have a pointed tail for dialogue. Thought bubbles have cloud-like borders with floating dots. Narration boxes provide rectangular captions for scene-setting text. All are draggable and editable with customizable tail direction.

12 scene backgrounds. From the serene Park to the vastness of Space, each background uses CSS gradients and simple shapes to set the mood. Mix different backgrounds across panels to show scene changes in your story.

Undo/redo and export. Made a mistake? Undo up to 30 steps. The export renders all panels, borders, title, and author credit into a single high-resolution PNG at 1200 pixels or wider, perfect for sharing online.
