What Is Brick Breaker?

Brick Breaker is a modern take on the classic Breakout arcade game that has captivated players since Atari released the original in 1976. The premise is timeless: use a paddle to bounce a ball into rows of colored bricks, destroying them for points while keeping the ball in play. What started as a simple arcade concept has become one of the most beloved game genres in history.

Our version features 20 hand-designed levels with increasing complexity, from simple rows of single-hit bricks to dense formations of multi-hit red bricks in creative patterns. Five different power-ups add strategic depth — from the satisfying multi-ball split to the devastating laser that lets you shoot bricks directly. A combo multiplier rewards skillful play, giving up to 4x points for consecutive hits without touching the paddle.

Everything runs at smooth 60 frames per second with neon ball trails, particle effects on every brick destruction, and a polished dark-themed visual design. No download, no signup, no ads — just instant classic arcade gameplay in your browser.

How It Works

Move the paddle with your mouse on desktop or by dragging on mobile. The ball launches when you click, tap, or press spacebar. Angle it by hitting different parts of the paddle — the edges send the ball at sharper angles for strategic shots, while the center reflects it straight up.

Destroy all bricks to advance to the next level. Green bricks take 1 hit (10 pts), yellow take 1 hit (20 pts), orange take 2 hits (30 pts) with visible cracks after the first, and red take 3 hits (50 pts) with progressive damage. Every 5th brick destroyed drops a random power-up — catch it with your paddle to activate.

You start with 3 lives. Losing all balls below the paddle costs a life. Clear a level without losing any lives for a 500-point bonus (vs. 100 normally). The ball speeds up slightly every 3 levels, and later levels feature denser, more complex brick arrangements.

Key Features

20 unique levels take you from simple brick rows through creative patterns — diamonds, spirals, X-shapes, borders, and dense multi-hit formations. Each level introduces new challenges, and the ball speed increases as you progress, keeping the difficulty curve satisfying throughout.

5 power-ups drop from every 5th brick: Wide Paddle extends your reach for 15 seconds, Multi-Ball splits into 3 for chaotic fun, Slow Ball gives you breathing room, Extra Life adds a safety net, and Laser lets you shoot bricks directly. Active power-ups show timers so you always know what you have.

Polished visuals include a neon ball trail effect, colorful particle bursts on brick destruction, a metallic paddle with gradient shading, and a clean dark-themed HUD. The game renders on HTML5 Canvas at 60fps for buttery-smooth gameplay on any device.

Works perfectly on desktop, tablet, and mobile with mouse, touch, and keyboard controls. High scores are saved locally so you can track your progress across sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many levels are in this Brick Breaker game?

There are 20 levels of increasing difficulty. Levels 1-5 feature standard brick rows with green and yellow bricks. Levels 6-10 introduce patterns like diamonds, V-shapes, and checkerboards along with tougher orange bricks. Levels 11-15 bring complex layouts and red bricks that take 3 hits. Levels 16-20 are densely packed with multi-hit bricks and faster ball speed.

What do the power-ups do?

There are 5 power-ups that drop from every 5th brick destroyed. Green (Wide Paddle) extends your paddle to 120px for 15 seconds. Red (Multi-Ball) splits your ball into 3. Blue (Slow Ball) reduces ball speed by 40% for 10 seconds. Yellow (Extra Life) gives you +1 life. Purple (Laser) lets you shoot bricks directly for 10 seconds by clicking or tapping.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes, the game is fully touch-optimized. Drag your finger to move the paddle and tap to launch the ball or fire lasers. The canvas scales to fit your screen width, and all touch targets are sized for comfortable mobile play.

How does the combo system work?

Every consecutive brick hit without the ball touching the paddle increases your combo multiplier. After 2 hits you get 2x points, after 3 hits 3x, and the maximum is 4x. The multiplier resets when the ball touches the paddle, so angling shots to hit multiple bricks in sequence rewards skillful play.

Are my high scores saved?

Yes. Your top 10 high scores are saved in your browser's local storage, along with the level you reached and the date. They persist between sessions but are specific to your browser and device.

What are the controls?

On desktop, move your mouse to control the paddle, click to launch the ball or fire lasers, and press P to pause. Arrow keys also move the paddle, and Spacebar launches the ball. On mobile, drag to move and tap to launch or fire.
